Last night, 60 Minutes had a great segment on antidepressants and the undervalued placebo effect.
What Harvard researcher Irving Kirsch has found is that a placebo can work just as well as an antidepressant in those suffering from *mild* depression (it is important to note the emphasis on mild; the same is not true for severe depression), the form that most Americans are diagnosed with.
